RAM Concept - Ability to lock mesh nodes and/or elements

In RAM Concept, it would be helpful to have the ability to lock specific nodes or elements so that they don't get reset when you regenerate your mesh. This would be particularly useful in areas where unusual geometry or column transfer loads occur.

For example: I have a fairly large floor plan where some unusual geometry is present, and every time the mesh needs to be regenerated, I must stretch a specific slab/wall node back into alignment with the rest of the wall (circled in red below). This is the result of a beam edge that's slightly offset from the wall centerline due to architectural constraints (circled in green below). If the slab/wall node or elements could be locked, this would save time when other adjustments are made throughout the model resulting in the mesh needing to be regenerated.

Edit: Here's what the problem area looks like on the Mesh Input layer for reference:

  • Thanks for the clarification, Seth. That makes sense, in this case we could align one to the other like you said, and it wouldn't have a significant impact on the design. That seems to be the case in general when this issue occurs, so maybe locking mesh nodes isn't necessary if the elements can be aligned another way instead. Thanks for your help!

  • You can edit the elements, but as you noted this all gets wiped when you remesh. In this case the center line of the wall and the edge of the beam are the two items that we need to align the mesh to, but those are very slightly off, so if you can move one or the other in the mesh input it will resolve things for good.
