Future Consideration

Adding SJI members for physical modelling added to the backlog, but additional details on how that might be provided needs to be clarified.

Add SJI Joist to the Physical Modeling Workflow

SJI joists are available in the analytical modeler, but not the physical modeler.

  • I need their stiffnesses included in the model. Right now I look up equivalent joist section properties from SJI and input them into a generic section. That is tedious. It would be nice to have STAAD take care of that for me.

I'm currently working on a structure with a large dormer on the roof. I'd like to get a sense of how much joists would deflect under the loads applied by the dormer.

  • Are you looking for the joists in the Physical Modeller to perform in the same or similar way to their behaviour in the Analytical Workflow? In that they have to direct structural function for the analysis, they only exist in order to provide loading onto the structural model? Some cursory tests are provided, but they are not included in the analysis model. Self weight is accounted for and any member load is transferred to the ends as direct forces.

Does this provide value to your analysis or is it just nice to see the joists in the model?
