Curtailment of section in all three axes

We are using STAAD Pro for optimizing our designs. We deal in steel structures & we need to optimize it by curtailment in all the three axes, presently we can do curtailment in the web depth ( Taper I section). We want to reduce the width of the flanges similar to the depth of the web. Please include this small request & fulfill the need.

We also work on plate box girders, there also we require the optimization by curtailment.

  • Thank you for posting the idea here, although I am not 100% clear what you are looking for?  Is this about providing a routine for optimising the size of tapered members? When you say 3 axes, to you mean in the local Y, determining the largest dimension at the haunch, in the Z direction the width of the flanges? In the X direction, then length of the taper? Do you taper the width of the flanges along the length of the member? Would you expect the design to modify the thickness of the flanges and if so in what increments?  What would help would be a more detailed specification of how the optimization routine would work. What would be the starting points what would change, in what increments and what would need to remained fixed. It would them become clearer how this could be provided.
