In the SPPM Spreadsheet: Members - Add Section Property and Material

As the title says, add section property and material to the Members spreadsheet in the physical modeler. This might not be "consistent" with how things are done in the spreadsheet ribbon, but so often when modelling the user wants to group the members by "description" (which you have allowed and is great) and then wants to change the section for all those members. Or I may add a member later and just want to copy/paste the section and material from the other members with the same description.

  • I'd actually be ok with that. So often I work in groups where I want things to be the same. If they are all going to be different, then I already know I'm in for a long day.

Also I don't want to be "forced" to make every member the same profile or material. If you have select by description and have different sections/properties then the spreadsheet would just say "varies" and you could overwrite all of them if you wanted.

I guess in the end I'm was just looking for a faster way to change the material & section of all members that have the same description (and by description I mean any "tag" that I can use to group members). Something similar to the RAM Elements workflow of using "Ctrl + D" then going to section tab I can change all the properties to be the same or change them to be different. I think what you have now is essentially the same. You can consider this idea dead.

  • The challenge here is that there is compulsion to make every member that has a given description to adopt a profile or material. Meaning if you are looking to assign the properties associated with a specific description, then which would you chose? every one with a given description could be unique.  Think if the description is used to identify a floor, then every member of the floor can be different. However once you have your selection, assignment of the profile /material will be to your entire selection.

  • I suppose you are right and that is consistent with everything else. However I still think you make an exception for section and material and included in that 1st spreadsheet. I know the question is, well where do you stop but I am saying section and material is where you stop.

  • This capability already exists. If you have the Members table displayed which has members listed with common descriptions, then right click over any one of those and chose from the pop up menu 'Find and Select', all members with that description will be selected. Then change to the Member Properties spreadsheet and you will see that all those members will still be selected. You can then make a change to section and/or material to any one of those members and the selection remains which means you can then right click and select fill selection to achieve your goal.
