While performing design per the US Aluminum code, I encounter an error message - **PRODUCT NAME COULD NOT BE MATCHED.** - What does that mean?
OR
When carrying out Aluminum Design, design is not carried out for certain members and I encounter messages like the one below
**IN TABLES 3.3-1 and 3.3-2, NO DATA IS AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING COMBINATION FOR
MEMBER # 1 **
ALLOY : 6061-T6 Product : All Alclad : No Welded : No
What does that mean ?
In the US Aluminium design, the allowable stresses on members are dependent on the following:
ALLOY
PRODUCT Type
ALCLAD
WELD Type
STRUCTURE Type
THICKNESS of the various components of the cross section
The allowable stresses for Aluminum sections are fetched by STAAD from two look-up tables - Tables 3.3-1 and 3.3-2 of the Aluminum specifications. In these tables, the allowable stresses are published for a list of the permissible combinations of Alloy, Product, Alclad and weld type. Only a specific set of combinations of these 4 attributes is feasible in practice. An arbitrary combination of Alloy, Product, Alclad and weld type may not contain an entry in those tables. So, STAAD has to first verify whether the values specified by the user for these 4 parameters together make up one of the acceptable combinations. Only then will it be able to find the allowable stresses for that combination. If the combination is found to be impractical, the message we saw above will result.
If it cannot find a matching combination, it tries to come up with the best guess as to which of the above parameters is responsible for the lack of "match". In the above message, the program determines the PRODUCT type to be the one causing the problem. Changing the Product from ALL to a different product ( Extrusion, Drawn Tube or Pipe as appropriate ) would generally solve the issue.
