Starting a New Project in Structural DocumentationCenter TN

    Starting a New Project

A project (in Structural DocumentationCenter) is a folder structure that holds the design file and all the resources (cells, Project Explorer links, etc.) that are specific to a particular project. The project resources are combined together with the system and application resources to create the final environment.
A project is a folder and a PCF (project configuration file) in the file system. There are many configuration options that define where the project folders are located (Locally, network share, etc.). It’s easy to just use the default location “Projects\Examples” to get started.
To create a new project just copy the structural_imperial folder and the PCF file structural_imperial.pcf. After copying the files you can rename them for your new project. Below you can see I created a new project “CopingConditions” on my computer. You should keep an unmodified copy of the structural_imperial folder and structural_imperial.pcf file to copy and create new projects.
If you create a new project without using a fresh copy of the structural_imperial files it can cause you some problems. When you use the seed file 3dEnglishStructRAMStructuralSystem.dgn you are creating only a new design file in the project folder.  In particular, the file <project>\linksets\MasterProject.dgnlib is not being updated. That’s where the Project Explorer links are stored. That’s part of the problem when the same project is used for more than one RSS model. You will have elements of other projects stored in your new project.
After you have created a new project then you should be able to select the project from the opening file dialog.
