Tension T-Stub cannot be calculated with the current fastener positions

    Applies To
    Product(s): RAM Connection
    Version(s): CONNECT Edition
    Environment:
    Area: RAM Connection
    Subarea: Connection design

A warning "Tension T-Stub cannot be calculated with the current fastener positions" is reported in the Results report for the Base Plate connections

When Eurocode EN 1993 is used and the user selects Pinned Base Plate or Smart Fixed Uniaxial Major Base Plate, they are based specifically on SCI P358 and SCI P398 SCI Green Books.

When the base plate is under compression only, RAM Connection follows the SCI P358 publication, but if there is some tension force in the base plate, then the program follows SCI P398 publication. This document has specific anchor configurations to calculate the Tension T-Stub detailed in page 71 (see below). As can be seen, the equations are only of those specific locations and that is the reason why such warning message is reported when the anchors are not in these locations. So the warning gets reported when there is some tension in the base plate and anchor bolts are inside the flanges.

However, a more generic approach based on AISC DG1 has been implemented in RAM Connection. In case other anchor configurations are required, that can be assigned using Smart Fixed Uniaxial Both Axis Base Plate or Smart Fixed Biaxial Base Plate. So when such warning occurs, the user has two options to avoid it:

    1) Edit the location of the anchors so that it would be outside of the flanges.

    2) Use Smart Fixed Uniaxial Both Axis Base Plate or Smart Fixed Biaxial Base Plate template. This will use the generic AISC check for the base plate.
