Corruption of Wall Geometry in Version 17.04

      Applies To
Product: Ram Structural System; Ram Modeler
    First Affected Version: 17.04.00
      Found in Version: 17.04.00
    Released in Version: 17.04.02
      Area:  File, Installation, Conversion
      Issue #: 968161

Note: This issue has will be resolved in the update version, v17.04.02.12. Installing this version should solve the problem.

    Problem Description

After converting a model from the prior version, and making some changes in Modeler, the wall geometry can become corrupted. Symptoms include errors in the Data Check, a default zoom factor that is very distant (the plan is tiny), errors running the framing tables, or errors viewing the 3D view.

    A corrupt model plan view:

    Reason

The Unique ID (UID) structure of the walls is incorrectly reset.

    Solution

The problem should be fixed in our next release. Meanwhile, if a model becomes corrupted first try to find a backup file from before the wall corruption. If one is found,

    1. Make a copy of that file.
    2. In Modeler make a new layout type for each existing layout type.
    3. Copy the geometry from the original layouts to the new layouts. It's OK to copy the walls if the walls initially appear OK bt if the walls are already corrupt, leave them out of the layout copies.
    4. Replace the layout references in the Story data to use the new layouts.
    5. Delete the old layouts.

Regretfully in this process you will lose wall openings and vertical braces, but this process resets the wall UID and should prevent future corruption.
