(07.31.2012) Bentley-Software for Integrated Plant Design eSeminar Attendee Questions

This eSeminar was originally presented on July 31st, 2012.

You can view the recording online at our BeConnected site (Click here!)

The following are the product-related questions and corresponding answers from the eSeminar.

                 Integration:

    1. Q: Can a piping model generated in CADWorx Plant (.dwg) be directly imported into AutoPIPE?

      A
: AutoPIPE has a pcf translator capable of reading and converting a CadWorx produced pcf File. Other options include the following:

    2. Q: Can you import multiple AutoPIPE models into a single STAAD model?

A: The Integration between STAAD and AutoPIPE supports both a single User Environment and a Multiple User Environment. Refer to the following Slides:

    3. Q: Can we import auto pipe model on concrete tank or frame models

      A
      : Yes.

    4. Q: How would Integrated Structural Modeling play into the linking of these programs?

A: ISM permits our Analysis & Design, Modeling & Documentation, and our Partner products to share the same model repository change management, visualization, and revision history. AutoPIPE is not currently part of the ISM exchange, but does have the same features as ISM through it‘s direct link with STAAD. Refer to the following Slide:

    5. Q: How do revisions work between STAAD.Pro & ProStructures?  For example, when a beam is added in STAAD.Pro, how is it handled in ProStructures?

A:  The Structural Synchronizer provides a mechanism of storing, co-coordinating and visualizing common structural model info. Storing: Database of COMMON structural model data – small footprint; Coordinating: Change management and synchronizing of data across products. Single source of truth. Revision history and tracking; Visualization: Free viewer and data interrogation capability. Refer to the following Slides and
      http://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/w/structural__wiki/integrated-structural-modeling-home.aspx

    6. Q: Does this work with RAM connections?

A: ISM integration with Ram Connection is currently being developed and should be available in 2013

    7. Q: Is SACS is connected with ISM?

      A:
SACS is currently part of the ISM (Q2 2012) exchange, see above. Refer to the following Slide:

      Quality:

    8. Q: Does this software meet the requirements of ASME NQA-1 a-2009, Part II, Subpart 2.7 and subsequently Subpart 2.14?

A: AutoPIPE is the only pipe stress analysis software on the market that adheres to the strictest external quality standards, including ISO 9001, 10CFR21, NQA-1 and the nuclear approvals by NUPIC and NRC customers. This requirement will be mandatory in the near future.

      Analysis & Post Processing:
    9. Q: Is ADL PIPE the Ssame as AUTO-PIPE? ADLPipe was a predecessor of AutoPIPE.

A: We no longer are developing ADL Pipe as the functionality of it has been added to AutoPIPE.

    10. Q: How many AutoPIPE calcs can you handle at one time?

A: We have recently Increase Number of Combinations to 1000 each for Code and Non-Code. Refer to the following Slide:

    11. Q: Can we do a seismic design for a pipe rack for both Empty & Operating case with in a STAAD model?

      A:
Yes, with and without the matching AutoPIPE file as required.
    12. Q:  Are there plans to include non pipe loads i.e. electrical tray supports with the weight of the cable?

A: You can do that now. Both STAAD and AutoPIPE can accommodate any number and type of loads required.

    13. Q: Is there a flag to the piping designer when a member is overloaded?

A:  AutoPIPE does not design Structural members. We are utilizing the stiffness of the structural members. Overstressed Piping Segments can be viewed graphically in addition to a tabular printout.

    14. Q: Are there any plans to include a default "Rigid" material property in STAAD, just like there is in AutoPIPE?

A: STAAD doesn’t have any specific rigid link member like AutoPIPE. You can define very stiff properties or use master/slave command. If you feel this is not sufficient, I would suggest an enhancement request be submitted. You can submit the request here…http://appsnet.bentley.com/srmanager/addcall.aspx
