Seismic Provisions for BCF Moment Frames

In RAM Connection, seismic provisions can be incorporated into the design of the following connection templates:

  • MEP: Moment End Plates (with I-Shaped Beams and Columns)
  • DW: Directly Welded (with I-Shaped Beams and Columns)
  • FP: Flange Plate (with I-Shaped Beams and Columns)

Design Codes

The seismic load resisting system and seismic design parameters (including reduced beam sections) can be specified for moment resisting BCF joints where seismic provisions are considered:

  • AISC: OMF (Ordinary Moment Frame), IMF (Intermediate Moment Frame), SMF (Special Moment Frame) can be specified for moment resisting BCF joints in the New Joint Dialog.

  • CSA: D (Ductile Moment-Resisting Frame), MD (Moderately Ductile Moment-Resisting Frame), LD (Limited Ductility Moment-Resisting Frame) can be specified for moment resisting BCF joints in the Connection Pad.
  • NZS: Classification of Members (Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, Category 4) can be specified for moment resisting BCF joints in the Connection Pad.

          

Reduced Beam Sections

The reduced beam sections follow the recommendations of the following seismic design standards:

  • AISC 341: RBS are prequalified for the use in SMF or OMF systems.
  • CSA S16: RBS are intended for D, MD, and LD systems.
