Don Lee leads workshop on "Terrain & Geometry Using OpenRoads" at Seattle LEARNing Conference

Bentley’s Resident Consultant, Don Lee, lead a packed room of LEARNing Conference attendees through a "QuickStart for Terrain & Geometry Using OpenRoads" workshop.

Don covered the use of legacy data (.tin, .dtm, or .fil files) in creating and viewing terrains, creating horizontal geometry and vertical geometry from PIs, and the advantages to using OpenRoads. Don acknowledged using OpenRoads is a transition from InRoads or GEOPAK with different tools, naming conventions, interface, data, and standards.

Some advantages of using OpenRoads technology:

  • seamless interface with MicroStation
  • use of MicroStation standards
  • data stored in DGN
  • enhanced capabilities for 3D modeling
  • more dynamic & interactive
  • takes advantage of Project Explorer

Learn how to interact with data through references / reference dialog box. Take an existing file pack and bring it into OpenRoads.

Learn how to define and set feature definitions (define an element, including its properties and how it displays), select design standards and display raster images.
