This issue occurs when regenerating the surface with the Create Surface command with “Empty Design Surface” toggled on. This empties the design surface and recreates the components, features, etc of the surface with new GUID numbers. When this occurs the cross section no longer has its intelligence and it cannot be updated. The workflow should be to turn off the “Empty Design Surface” toggle and select “Modify” under Duplicate Names.
