Microstation Solids and Meshes in Openroad Cross Sections

Hello,

I am using Geopak 08.11.09.722 Civil Tools --> Corridor Modeling to view and create cross sections.  Using the view cross section tool, all Microstation meshes, solids, and surfaces in the 3d file appear in the cross section model view.  Using the create cross sections tool, none of these show up, only the corridors or terrain models. Is this the correct behavior?  How do I get other 3d modeled items, such as  3d Geopak Drainage nodes and pipes to appear in the cut cross sections.

Thanks

Rick

  • Hello Adam,

I don't know specifics on the defect as it relates to the filing, access to Bentley's bug tracker would be useful. I can tell you that I could not get the cross section creator (not the cross section viewer) to extract any non-civil solids, surfaces or meshes. It is quite disappointing being I created solid pipes of all my underground existing utilities, solid pipes and shapes of all Geopak Drainage produced inlets and links, and all ROW lines as extruded surfaces. I was planning on modeling bridges along the corridor...glad I haven't. This was one the highlighted features of OpenRoads Technology....and works quite well in the cross section model view...but back to ancillary features.

    Thanks

  • That is strange. I cut cross section set along corridor cutting bridge deck and abuntment and get that on my cross-sections. I even logged for a defect that levels of that elemnts are changed on cross-sections when cuting through structures in referenced files.

  • It must be Geopak specific then. However I was sure that cross-section engine would be the same for all civil products with OpenRoads technology. Do you use Geopak tools  to cut cross-sections or new OpenRoads tools?

You are right that this is advertised as one of greatest benfits of the new technology and it was one of reasons that make me migrate to Openroads.

  • Rick, can you try something for me? Try assigning a Surface Feature Definition to your 3D mesh you want to see in your cross sections. Does this fix the issue? You can simply use the assign Feature command. I am not positive, but I think this is a requirement right now.

    Thanks

    This is a test

  • Hello Chuck,

I did try assigning a Surface Feature Definition to the mesh. That is after I converted the solid to a mesh. It would not allow me to apply a Surface Feature Definition to a solid or surface, or a Linear Feature Definition to them either. I also tried to apply a material to the solid. No go.

Adam, I am using Openroads tools to cut the sections, though while it seems the dialog to cut the sections is different, it still results in the old Geopak cross section cell process.

The only way I been able to show linear items in cross sections is to apply a Linear Feature Definition to a line, then set a point as cell to the xsection portion of the Feature.

If anyone wants to duplicate the problem, I just took a Horizontal Geometry, applied a surface vertical to it with a -3.5 offset. Made that vertical the active profile which then created the 3d line. I then used the Microstation create solid by extrusion along to add a pipe solid to the 3d line. Shows in cross section view model just fine......does not show on create cross section.

    Thanks
    Rick
