Survey Styles File

This is the configuration variable that you need to use;


CIVIL_SURVEY_STYLEFILE : Defines the Style file that is linked in the survey feature definitions. Available options are an XIN from InRoads, an XML from a GEOPAK SMD, or a PSS from MX.

I've set it to point to the correct .xml, but it does not load on startup.  I am still forced to load it manually.

Running the "Link Survey Feature Definitions" populates the list in the Civil Standards tab with the styles from the XIN (or XML), but does not actually load the settings into the file like the point/line/surface Feature Definitions, instead the Survey Feature Definitions act as a link back to the XIN/XML file where the settings are maintained.

When you open the DGN file in subsequent design sessions, Survey wants to know which XIN/XML to link to, so that is why you set the CIVIL_SURVEY_STYLEFILE variable.

So if CIVIL_SURVEY_STYLEFILE is defined I should not need to manually link the Survey Feature Definition each time? If this work I am good, it seemed from the discussion thread that even if this variable was defined the link still needed to be manually made each time.

Correct. If your CIVIL_SURVEY_STYLEFILE variable is set to the same XIN that you used when you linked, then you will not have to link again, and you will not be prompted when you open the DGNs.

I successfully defined the CIVIL_SURVEY_STYLEFILE and the application no longer ask to define the survey feature definition XIN file BUT the survey data still does not import properly unless I manual link the Survey Feature Definitions. So I guess again what was the point it seems to still require a manual link setup each time I need to import survey into a DGN Field Book?

This does seem to solve the issue where once the survey data is imported we do not need to manually link the Survey Feature Definitions each time the file is opened. But still seems strange that it is required to do so each time prior to importing.

Also this process of linking feature definitions creates duplicate feature definitions. The Feature definitions we used for survey are the same feature definitions used to display surface feature definitions and they also come from the same XIN file so now we have duplicate Feature Definitions (1) for the “Linked Active Feature Styles” and (1) for the “Linked Survey Future Definitions” but one of them is renamed.

I'm with you on this. It does not make sense to have to manually load the Styles every time. Did you find a solution or better way?
