In ORD, they very first thing you should do after the program finishes opening is disable the persist snaps icon on the feature definition toolbar. The snap persist rule is almost always the cause of this issue as well as file corruption issues.

This is NOT fixed in SS4. I'm using the current ORD and found this post after giving up trying to solve myself. Manually typing in the stations worked great, clicking on beginning and end of corridor got me the circular dependency error that I pulled my hair out for the last two days.

It will happen when you add keyin station, point control, end condition exception, parametric constraint, template drop with snapping to any of corridor object (eg. edges of pavement). Design Intent tries to rememeber a rule but the rule depends on corridor results. Software should not create design intent rule when it would create circular dependency. It will also happen not only with snapping to corridor object - you will see this behaviour when you use Civil Accudraw with coridor elements as refeneces or orgins.

I believe it was fixed in SS4. You can now snap to corridor object and it will remember only the station/offset and not the rule.

Paul - I was able to resolve the issue by deleting all three template drops. I recreated the template drops using the template from the ITL you provided. Then, I edited the middle template drop to have the TIE point. At that point, I was able to add the point control. I am still stumped as to why it wouldn't work before, but I think it may have had something to do with snapping to elements when you picked your start/stop stations in the template drops. Instead, I keyed in each of the station values. Please give this a try and let me know if it works for you. I can provide you with my files if you need to see them.

Here are files with the problem. In the file COR2.dgn, I'm trying to tie the point TIE to the orange line with a Point Control. I have tried a number of variations but no success. I'm using point controls for placement of the radius returns without this issue.

Unfourtunetly I am unable to upload, after encountering this many times since my post a thought occured. Why not include more information in the Civil Message center? Things would be much easier if I was told what the circular dependency is, all the elements invlolved, or just the dependent element, any information in addition to the alert that a dependency has occured would eb extremely helpful.

We have seen this issue before. This can sometimes occur when the element you are using as a point control is ruled to the element you are trying to control. I would very much like to test this issue with your data if you are willing to upload it for our use.
