Civil Geometry - Design Intent

When creating horizontal or vertical civil geometry we should have a toggle that will retain or not retain the "design intent". Having to go back and remove constraints and "re-civilize" elements is just a lot of extra clicks. Further design intent, and in particular elements that are linked to elements, which are further linked to other elements is leading to a LOT of file instability. This has not improved in SS4 and leaves us to only carefully manage these dependencies. This is why we need a toggle that allows us at the time of creation to control the functionality.

To be clear, I may want to set a lane offset from another lane when initially drawing but after the element is in the file I want it to be a civil element but I don't want it to remember where it was created from. This needs to be a check box available when the element is created.

Microstation is simply not stable when you have a lot on design intent to recurse through... this also need to improved, IMHO.

  • This is a bit of tricky one as "design intent" is one of the core aspects of OpenRoads design, from what I'm aware it's inherently linked with the Civil geometry design tools. Removal of design intent basically reverts the civil element to a CAD elements with a feature definition applied to it. For your example above you can design the element using the CAD drafting tools and turn it to a civil element by applying a feature definition to it after it is create.

I'll create an Enhancement request but can't guarantee that the ability to toggle on and off design intent is achievable.

  • Enhancement 168537 OpenRoads Elements - toggle design intent on/off has been logged.
