overlay template design

Hello everyone Can any body help me to design a overlay template of 2 lane  in openroads SS4 with following conditions/cases

1) If existing road is not symmetrical to proposed center line or existing zig zag , how the point control of both the ex. carriageway edges will be act, it violates the requirement where ex. carriageway leaves the proposed carriageway.

2) In any case the area of  existing carriageway whether it is riding LHS , RHS or symmetric to Proposed Center line should be considered for milling/overlay ( only if when it comes under proposed area of carriageway) should be applied on that part and for rest it should be designed as new pavements.

  • Hi Deepak,

When you apply point control, you are overriding the template geometry in design corridor and each point can follow only one controlling feature in one corridor. A better way to do this will be to create the template in such a way that it caters to all possible scenarios of Overlay and Widening. A possible solution is shown in the attached images. Instead of point control, Horizontal Feature Constraint option is used within template to identify and follow existing road edges. Display rules are set for all the components and hence you can see that a different component gets applied for any changed scenario.

  • Dear Sanders

Thanx for your quick reply. But the problem is something different here, i got your point , i think the picture will be more clear after watching this picture attached below . I applied a overlay template before applying point control.

Here i am using the point control to enable Mx to restrict the overlay area which is under my proposed carriageway. Because most of the sections in overlay design geometric improvements has been proposed as shown in above picture.

The picture shown below is after applying Point control to ex. carriageway stings to a overlay template by defining null points on LHS and RHS by linear geometry.

In any case whether proposal is symmetrical, LHS or RHS widening it is picking the linear geometry provided during point control.

Ideally it should only use ex. carriageway when comes under proposed carriageway.

  • Hi Deepak,

You should be able to accomplish this by constraining your overlay to your existing ground. If your LHS and RHS refers to your linear geometry; within the Overlay Vertical Adjustment command set the Existing Ground Range to Match Existing Linear Geometry. You will then select your Left and Right Linear Geometry as LHS and RHS as you have indicated giving you overlay over exiting carriageway.

Regarding your new pavement, you can create an overlay component(s) beneath your overlay to fill in as the new pavement buildup.

    Thanks,
    Sanders
