I'm using V8i Select Series 3 and I'm in need of a tool to create legal descriptions. I'm looking for something similar to "Q-Legal" that works for ACAD Civil 3D. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Hi. Although I don't have any practical experience with legal descriptions, I have been playing around with the function in InRoads. They are placed under the tools -> XML reports ->geometry... report function. After you have selected your alignment and applied the settings, your report browser opens in the default geometry report view. On the left pane you should see a folder named Legal... The reports are based on a css-like stylesheet named *.xsl, so it should be quite straightforward to customize the templates to your needs.

This sort of functionality does exist in the InRoads product. The Legal Description Report, on the menu Tools > XML Reports, generates temporary XML data files that are formatted into reports by the View XML Reports command. The Legal Description Report creates an XML data file containing information on closed alignments and reference alignments.
The resulting report would look like this:

I have used the legal writer in V8i. It will not be in OpenRoads. It is part of the Geopak tools under the Survey menu bar/geometrytools/Legal descriptions. It is clunky but it works. It takes a bit to customize it but it's worth it. I can send you my notes if you need help.
