Cross Section - Proposed Surface Wider than Cross Section

I am working on cutting cross sections for a new 4 lane roadway.  The standard cross section borders go from 150' left of baseline to 150' right.  Being that this is a new roadway, the  proposed surface sometimes goes beyond these limits, so we'll need a matchline above to show the rest of the section.  Is there some way to do this when cutting them?  Or at least a way to tell the cross section command that if the proposed surface is wider than 150' left or right to only put one section on that sheet so we can add the matchline above it?

Thanks!

  • The only way we can control a cross section width to clip and go to a separate sheet (if the offsets are wider than the sheet) is through the custom cross sections. You can specify a different width for different stations or station ranges. If the width of the section is greater than the sheet, it should clip and place the rest of the cross section in the next sheet. One downside is you do have to know the offsets for the stations because you have to enter them in.

One option would be to copy the centerline alignment and offset it left and right, say 150 on each side and compare it to the boundary (perimeter) of the surface to see where the perimeter is outside the 300' wide range. Then you will know the station ranges you want to use a wider left and right offset so you can set up the different ranges in the custom cross sections.

  • Is there a way to control it so the areas left and right of the -150' to 150' range show up on either the left or right above it?  When I tried this I think I went -200' to 200' in the area I needed and it started the cross section at -200', went past the right border of the sheet, and then put the remainder of the right side of the cross section above on the left.  I would like to keep the centerline of the cross section in the center of the page and only have the ends beyond the 150' show up above to the left or right as applicable  Is this possible?

  • When we are generating cross sections, we cut them from left to right and not from the centerline out, so there is not an option to clip the 2 ends outside a secondary range and push the left and right up to a section above the main cross section station.
