[v8i] PowerSurvey/PowerCivil slow startup

Users are complaining of long start up time for PowerSurvey/PowerCivil compared to Microstation/Powerdraft. It takes 2x-3x times longer to open a file than on base product on same machine and standard workspace. Custom workspaces makes it even worse. Is it possible to speed this up for users which don't use Inroads tools frequently? Inroads Explorer is already hidden by default for them. In preXM editions it was possible to run Powerdraft separately and then load Inroads if needed and that could be used as option.

Also I have observed that after clean install it works fast but becomes sluggish after week or so of use and deleting upf doesn't help much in that case.

  • But the loading time about 20-30sec for new file open on some machines is unacceptable comparing to MS/PD. It wouldn't be convient to install also PowerDraft.

There are some steps which improves loading time slightly

    1.  Some antivirus(Avira,AVG) conflicts with Powersurvey and how it loads resources. Adding PowerSurvey to exclusion list speeds the loading up.
    2. Program start is mainly single thread process so CPUs which has higher single core clock loads faster. Installing latest chipset/board drivers sometimes help to fix issues with Intel Turboboost so allowing cores to run faster.
    3. Defragmenting HDD with boot optimization switch (defrag -b) also helps for program start up. Of course there would be no effect and no need to defrag SSD.
    4. Some older custom workspaces are heavy for PowerSurvey/Civil but works ok for PD. Recreating those DGNLIBs from scratch in latest version seem to help but have not pinpointed what causes this.
