OpenRoads (MX SS3) Cross Sections not pulling in reference terrain

Good afternoon everyone,

I have an issue generating cross sections in MXROAD SS3.

I click the Corridor Modelling R2 button

Then select the alignment string (which is referenced in)

Load the preferences

Select the cross section(s) required and name the model

The alignment strings show, but not the 3D extruded template or the existing terrain.

Inevitably I've missed something along the way, but I'm baffled as to what.  Has anyone had a similar experience?  More importantly, does anyone have any remedy?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

  • I have not really started using Ss3/4, but my first thought is this - Is the reference file locate setting turned on?

  • Thanks for replying so soon Chuck. I'm sorry, I don't follow. Where is the reference file locate setting?
  • I have had trouble controlling the displayed content in both the dynamic section view and the create cross section command. For the create cross section command I was able to get my original ground to show up by exporting the open roads terrain as landxml with both triangles and features and the re-importing, I think my terrain was entirely "spot" elevations and for some reason the surface needs some breakline features to show in the created cross sections. Not sure if that's the issue your having or not.
  • I just noticed you also can't get the display of your corridor template components, you probably should look at the level settings of your Default-3d model and make sure you see everything you want to have displayed before you cut the sections. I've also found that for the dynamic section view and the create cross sections to faithfully reflect the current level display settings of the default-3d model I have to save and reopen the file.
  • In the Reference File Dialog box there are columns for most settings. By default the Display, Snap and Locate settings are all adjacent to each other and to the right of filename, description, logical name. When a reference file is selected in the list of reference files in the dialog box, these same columns generally have matching buttons across the bottom of the dialog box - at least, those that are Toggles. Some offices turn off Locate by default to avoid accidental copying of elements from a reference file.

I can see in one of your images, you are using the Locate Element tool to show information on some reference file elements. This would not work on a reference file element if locate was not enabled.

BTW, using the Locate Element tool is very "Old School" - I used to use it all the time, but since tentative snapping will also show information, I got away from the practice. Interestingly, with locate turned off, but snap to reference still enabled, the tentative snap method will report information on the snapped to element.
