InRoads SS2 - How do I display my cut and fill as shapes in plan view?

I want to be able to take my existing and design surfaces and display the cut and fill areas as shapes in plan view. How would I go about doing this?

  • Create an isopach surface (Surface > Design Surface > Generate Isopach Surface) using those two surface. It's zero contour is the location where cut crosses into fill. You can display it with the Pass Through Contour tool of the Hydrology and Hydraulics Application Add-ins.
To plot color filled shapes that are red in cut and green in fill, use the View Color Coded Elevations tool with a custom color mode of only 2 colors.
After setting the "Number of Colors" to 2 and the "First To Elevation" to zero, press the Generate button. This will result in the dialog box showing your minimum and maximum cut and fill depths and the software will pick the dividing elevation as the from and to elevation for the two colors. You can select each and press the Edit button to select the two colors. When it seems to be working as you want, save it as a preference for later reuse.
This will plot filled shapes that are red in cut and green in fill, if so configured.
