Configuration variable to extend number of VPI's for best fit profile?

I have a note that there is a configuration variable to extend the number of VPI's that can be handled by the vertical alignment tools, can anyone tell me the name of the variable? I have a profile provided to me for which I can generate a best fit profile, but then I'd like to remove the rules and edit that profile and I can't. If I recall correctly, I should be able to resolve this by increasing the maximum number of VPI's.

  • I believe these are what you are thinking about. From the help document...

CIVIL_RELAX_NUMBER_OF_LINEARS Allows the user to relax the number of adjacent linear elements. If this is set to false or undefined then the maximum number of adjacent lines is 20.
CIVIL_RELAX_NUMBER_OF_ELEMENTS_FOR_RULES Allows the user to relax the total number of elements (lines + arcs). If this is set to false or undefined then the maximum number of total elements is 250.
CIVIL_RELAX_NUMBER_OF_ELEMENTS_ON_IMPORT Allows the user to relax the total number of elements (lines + arcs) on Import Geometry. If this is set to false or undefined then the maximum number of total elements is 1000. This only applies to vertical alignments.

  • This makes sense. I haven't actually tried the variable, but the best fit parameters affect the number of elements in the best fit profile, and this limit combined with using different parameters could very well explain why I can sometimes convert a best fit profile and sometimes not.
