Supposedly, it contains all our alignments. I need those alignments. I have PowerGEOPAK (currently SS2, downloading SS3 & SS4) How can I get those alignments from the ALG file into my GPK? I am not a regular user of Open Roads - none of our clients have made that jump. So I cannot tell you where to find the export to LandXML tool. And it has been a very long time since I used GEOPAK, but I believe that once you have a LandXML file, GEOPAK can load from there. Again, where that is done within GEOPAK, is something I cannot help with.

RE: PowerGEOPAK - I was given an ALG file...

[quote user="MaryB"]That works for getting the Alignments into OpenRoads!
Unfortunately, when I try to export that geometry to Native, Geopak crashes.
After importing, I assume that visually the horizontal alignments looked good. After that, did you review your alignments in the Project Explorer under Civil Model? You can keep expanding things until you get to the profile. Look at the profile list under each alignment. My own workflow involves removing all profiles not relevant to each given alignment.

Not knowing better, it could be a problem with the horizontal alignments. If this is what's causing the crash, it may be that they weren't imported very well even if they do look fine visually. It may help to review the alignment report. Enable AccuSnap's Identify Elements Automatically (if it isn't already set), then click on each alignment and click the pop-up button labeled Horizontal Geometry Report. Print that out or review it on screen. See if that looks good for each of your alignments.

If it isn't that, perhaps it's a problem with the profiles. If so, for each alignment, click on it and in the pop-up, click Open Profile Model. Then click in a new window that you're not working in. The profile view will open and you should be able to see all the profiles in there. You can do a profile report on those as well. If there's any overlaps in a given profile, or if you have a situation where the profile backs up on itself, that'll be a problem.

Though I must say I'm not sure any of these things would cause a Geopak crash.

I wish I knew more to help.

RE: PowerGEOPAK - I was given an ALG file...

That works for getting the Alignments into OpenRoads!
Thank you.

You mean InRoads? That's what your link says.

To the original poster, I've never interacted with ALG files so I can't guarantee any part of this, but I'm using Power Geopak SS3 myself and it looks like I should be able to import an ALG. Try taking these first few steps:

keyin: GEOMETRY FILE IMPORT

change the "Files of type" to ALG.

find your file.

Beyond that, I really have no idea what you'll see.

Since you're new to OpenRoads, I'll add this: at some point in the near future, you'll probably need Project Explorer up in case you haven't been using it. File > Project Explorer. Access the settings through Settings > Project Explorer.

Consider viewing the videos and documentation here: communities.bentley.com/.../7037.general-geometry-openroads

Because of my own experience with workspace manipulation--which is why I gave you the key-in rather than tell you which button to push--I'm aware that you may not have the tools available that I'm seeing on my own workspace. I hope you're able to figure out a way to access all the civil tools that you'll need.

I hope that helps.

RE: PowerGEOPAK - I was given an ALG file...

Same, unfortunately, Mary. I've been using GEOPAK since I've started doing CAD work. I don't even have an installation of InRoads/OpenRoads on my PC. :/ Wish I could be of more assistance.

RE: PowerGEOPAK - I was given an ALG file...

So how do I handle the ALG file with OpenRoads? Sorry, this probably isn't the answer you were looking for - but it seems like ALG files can only be handled by OpenRoads.
