Creating Geopak TIN files from LAS files

I don't believe that there is a way to batch convert. but, wouldn't you want to filter the las files first?
can you convert only the ones you need?

There is not a batch routine for converting LAS to TIN. You can multiple select LAS file to import into Terrain Models in SS3 or SS4 but then you would have to export them one by one to a TIN.

Do you want to have an individual TIN file for each LAS file OR is your intent to use multiple LAS files to create a single TIN file?

If the goal is the first option... you are out of luck.
If the goal is the second option, you can import the LAS files as a Point Cloud in MicroStation (multiple LAS to single Point Cloud) and then use Data Acquisition to extract and filter the Point Cloud to create a Surface. There is another recent thread that outlines this process.

I am attempting to do the same for the first time, but I'm not quite succeeding. Here are my steps:

1. Use plain MicroStation to attach 64 - 5000'x5000' LAS files as a Point Cloud (about 57 sq mi and about 1m spacing). - OK
2. Use GEOPAK SS4 to Create Terrain from Point Cloud. After waiting a while for GEOPAK I am able to set up my filtering, terrain name, etc., but I get an error message stating "Size Error in Binary XYZ...path...filename". The PointCloud.xyz file created in my Temp directory is 4.64 GB.

My ultimate goal is to create a city-wide GEOPAK SS2 tin file for use with GEOPAK Drainage and other SS2 tasks.

Questions:
1. Is there a size limit?
2. Is this the best way to accomplish this task, or would other software work better?
3. Assuming this is supposed to work, how would I add breaklines and water features to the terrain? These features have been provided in ESRI shp format.
