Openroads (MX SS3) very unstable

I am a traditional MX user and I've started playing about with Openroads. The problem I keep getting is the graphics driver kernel keeps crashing apparently which results in the screen going black until it has recovered. On a couple of occasions it hasn't recovered altogether and has required me to restart my computer by force. It doesn't seem to happen at the same point but I was working mainly with corridors.

My graphics card is NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (Driver WDDM 1.1 version 8.17.12.7628) in a DellPrecision Workstation T3500 with Windows 7 pro 64-bit (6.1)

Does any have any ideas what it could be or how to solve it?

Thanks,

Ken

  • I assume it's the United Kingdom (English) x86 version but it doesn't actually say in the about section. It's build number 08.11.09.722.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Ken

You are running the last MX V8i SS3 Version from this time last year.

we have had SS4 released at the start of this year.

However, I haven't had reports of anything like the problems you seem to be experiencing.

Your machine spec seems absolutely fine, its similar to what I'm running.

There are some log files we can harvest which may give us some clues as to what is going on.

I'll contact you offline to discuss what we can get off you further, and then we can update this thread.

    Hope that's OK.

  • I've seen what sounds like a similar issue before.

There's a setting that you could try enabling in your .PCF file that might help. If you're using the Bentley-Civil-Metric workspace when you run MX, then use a text editor to open the "Bentley-Civil-Metric.pcf" file in this folder:

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MX V8i (SELECTseries 4)\WorkSpace\Projects\Examples

Have a look and see if there's a section in the file that looks like this:

    #----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    # Video Graphics Issues - If encountering video resets try enabling this variable
    #----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    # QV_D3DVERSION = 9

(I've copied the lines above in from the SELECTseries 4 version of this file, but I think they'll be there in the SELECTseries 3 version of it).

If there is, remove the "#" from the start of the "# QV_D3DVERSION = 9" line, which will enable this variable, and see if this helps.

    Regards,

    Jon

  • Just to be clear, the path to the PCF file will be:

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MX V8i (SELECTseries 3)\WorkSpace\Projects\Examples

    for SELECTseries 3.
