Creating a Surface Perimeter in OpenRoads

You have to change the feature definition to "design boundary" by selecting the boundary and then assign it. Your exiting DTM feature definition should be "Existing Boundary" If you are using the examples workspace.

That works for an existing surface but what about a corridor?

Hmmm........That's a good one. I just was trying to analyze mine. There was a command/toggle to create one in SS2 when you processed the corridor. Looks like it has been removed. I will need to use a custom linestyle at some point on the toe of slope for cut or fill. I am still using the examples workspace until we get comfortable with SS3.

There is a round a bout way to accomplish, but nothing directly that displays the boundary of a corridor. First, make sure your design stage is set to create a top mesh. Then, using the microstation mesh tool, extract mesh boundary (or some name similar to that) select the corridor top mesh and you will get a boundary on the active MS level.

You need to be a in the 3d model for this tool to work. Also, if the corridor updates you will need to recreate the boundary element.

If your only concern is seeing the limits of a corridor couldn't you use the cut/fill features created from the corridor? These are ruled back to the corridor and update as design changes?

I had started to read somewhere else about using the extract mesh boundary tool and will have to look into it but it is a lot more work. The idea of maybe changing the way the feature style for my cut and fill slopes is good. The problem there is that it is currently the same style as other points that I would want to have annotated in my cross sections and so if I change that feature style then other features would also be displayed. It sounds like the options are change my templates, create a new style for the cut and fill features that will display them the way I want or extract the mesh boundary or thirdly export the corridor to a surface and do it the old way. Sure would be nice if Bentley had left a simple way to do this.
