Inroads Roadway Designer Plan View Graphics

Recently, when creating new corridors, the graphics in the plan view of roadway designer are shrinking. The graphic showing the active cross section in plan view varies in size as shown in the photos below. It's becoming an issue when cleaning up end conditions. Anyway to adjust this?

  • Todd, the only observation that I've ever made about this line (what's officially called the "Current Station Locator", or the "straight yellow line" ; ) is that the length (how wide it is) is some function of the length of the overall corridor model. The longer the alignment the longer that line becomes. The shorter the corridor model is, the smaller that line gets. It kinda bothers me when I have a short corridor like your first picture and I can't see the secondary alignments in action. It was probably a good idea at the time when it was first conceived, and at least it was considered that for a very short corridor that line didn't need to be super-wide. Thinking about that line in hindsight, it should have been determined by some value added to the farthest corridor control or cut / fill catch, or at least a fixed width that would accommodate the 'average' road project width.

I know of no way to adjust it other than creating a much longer alignment than you are actually modeling ...which you would never really do : \

  • There just isn't a 'solution'. I tried everything that i can think of to be able to control the length of that yellow line. (Faking a longer horizontal, faking a longer vertical, using a longer alignment and setting Corridor Station Limits... and so on.) I REALLY wanted to find a way to control this! Basically, if you create a Corridor and Fit the view in Plan, the length of that yellow line becomes about 25% of the length of the total Corridor. And that's just the way it is. As I mentioned earlier, lengthen the Corridor and that line gets longer. The only chance of changing the length of that line (in my opinion) is if one of the savvy programmer dudes on the Roadway Designer has some back-door magic that would affect the length of that line.
