Is there a way to change the default linear feature name?

I would like to change the default name and feature definition assigned to new linear features created in OpenRoads. It currently names them as shown below:

Any ideas?

  • Hi Cliff,

Make sure you have feature definitions that match your code prior to importing your survey data. When this is done, you will see the name of your feature definition listed versus DEFAULT.

    Thanks,
    Sanders

  • Hello Sanders,

Yes I understand the relationship between feature codes and name. Maybe an example is better.......

    1. Survey crew collects 100 storm pipes but does not use linking codes to connect the survey points for pipe connectivity.

    2. Tech has to now manually make those connections.

    3.  Using the right click function (see capture) Click New not Add graphic Linear feature.

    4. Using the following tool to click on the survey points and store a new chain for the pipe culverts (capture below)

    5. After accepting the points as the contents of the survey chain new chain is stored with the name "Linear Feature##" and feature definition of Default.

    6. Tech has to select the newly created chain or chains and manually modify the feature definition to say PCULV as per FDOT.

Back to the original question......is there a way to edit what feature definition and name OpenRoads is applying to the newly created survey chains?

The points seem to screen prompt at the cursor for a feature definition when created using the right click function from the Project Explorer.

    Thanks for reading.

  • Have you tried to edit multiple feature in the Survey Details dialog after all of the pipes have been created?

    1. If your feature code for the pipes is 'STORM' highlight that feature code in Project Explorer under the field book.

    2. Show the Details

    3. Highlight all of the 'STORM' feature by clicking the top left box in the Survey Details dialog.

    4. Right click on any of the features and Edit

    5. Type in the correct description and click the check mark.

Sorry to snippet is not very clear.

    Thanks,

    Dan Messerich, PLS

  • Thanks for the response. That's not the answer to my question. I was looking for a process to edit the default feature code being assigned to points and chains. I spoke with another Bentley employee. This cant be edited. I understand how to edit feature codes en mass. Thanks.
