[IR Ss2+] What is the purpose of Print Preparation.dgnlib?

I don't know when this showed up in the mix of things, but as I am cleaning up my client workspaces, I wanted to get rid of any text styles, element templates, levels that are in this DGNLIB so that only the prescribed versions of any of these find their way into our files.

The simple fix would be to remove this file from the dgnlib paths, but I don't want to break anything in the process.

  • I believe that gets delivered with base Microstation, and not necessarily InRoads. Not sure which version they started it in, but certainly come with Ss3.

In a default installation, you'll see the CFG file in:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\config\appl

    The files themselves are in:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\PrintPreparation\defaults

If you use a custom installation, with custom config files at the Site or Project level (you see this is at the APPL level), you may have never run across it. Did you recently install Microstation on a new machine? If you just do a default installation, before any customizations, it should show up.

Anyway, I usually just rename the PrintPreparation folder with a Plus sign in front to nullify the variable(s) pointing to it. That gets rid of all the DGNLIBs in that folder (there's 3 or 4 or so), and I've never had any problem due to renaming the folder. Again, I believe it's just one of those "complimentary" things from the MS (not IR) installation, sort of like the example workspace files.
