Convert Map Features to Microstation Elements

Hello,

I am fairly new to Bentley Map but I have taught myself to use it passably well for my purposes.  Here is the issue I am having.

I received shapefiles from a client that I need to use in my plan production and design.  When I import the shapefiles they come in as XFM features.  I need to have a model with this linework as microstation elements instead of xfm features because the xfm features are very hard to work with when you do not have map activated.  So I used map manager to export all of the shapefiles to a new model.  It did exactly what I wanted for about half of the line work.  The rest of the line work still appears to be Map elements.  When I hover my cursor over them it is listed as "Line String: Native Feature"  These native features appear to give us the same issue when trying to work with them such as changing colors, line styles, etc.   What do I need to do to get these to be basic Microstation elements?  I don't care to have the embedded information connected to them.  If I need that I will go back to originally imported file.  Any help would be much appreciated.
