Draw Slope Direction Pattern - InRoads SS2\SS3\SS4

Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience using the "Feature Style Pairs" option in the Draw Slope Direction Pattern tool in InRoads SS2, SS3 or SS4?

When I attempt it I get the error "No features displayed for surface 'SURFACENAME'", even though the features are displayed.

I've tried 2D, 3D. I've InRoads SS2/SS3/SS4. I've tried creating surfaces using various methods, I've tried altering the feature styles and using different feature styles.
In all cases I get the same error.

However, I have seen another user get this to work successfully on some occasions.

Ticking "Interactive" and applying the pattern manually works fine. However, I am after an automated way of doing this if possible.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get this to work, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Liam

  • Are the features displayed or simply highlighted? There is a feature highlight lock that automatically highlights features when they are selected in a list. These are displayed on screen only and not actually written to the file.

If you use the Update 3D/ Plan Surface Display dialog box, when you select the proper surface in its list, any features that are actually written to the file will show up already selected. Simply selecting and deselecting features in this dialog box writes them to the file or erases them from the file.

I have not used the tool you are asking about, but I have been fooled into thinking features were written in the CADD file by the highlighting of them on screen.

Also, can the tool work with the Locate Lock Set to Locate Features vs Set to Locate Graphics?

This might also be why it's not working because the tool may be dependant on the locate mode on the InRoads Locks toolbar.

  • Thanks for the quick response CADDCOP!

I have made sure that Feature Highlight Lock is off and displayed the features through Update 3D/Plan Surface Display. However, this seems to have made little difference. The features are definitely being written to the file.

Also tried the Locate Features\Locate Graphics lock. This also did not have any effect in my case.
  • Hi All,

Upon further investigation, it seems that features must be written to the file with the Pen lock set to Pencil (instead of Pen).
Eg. Set Pen Lock to Pencil, Display features using Update 3D/Plan Surface Display, then use the Draw Slope Direction Pattern tool.
Thanks CADDCOP you sent me down the right path.

    Thanks
  • That's very bizarre!  (Wow, I have not written that word in a long time - its spelling is bizarre!)

We use Pen mode almost exclusively, toggling on and off Delete Ink lock so that the any earlier drawn graphics only get erased when we want them erased. Sounds like a Bug.

Any comments from a Bentley colleague?

  • In my case, the pen lock is on "Pen mode" only needed to set "delete inc" ON ...
Just become more ... bizarre. :D

  • IS this combination

BRT V08.11.07.685, on MS, SS 2

    valid from the install requirements?

  • I don't experience any issue with draw slope direction pattern whatever the setting is: pencil, ink, delete ink
I am using Power Rail Track 08.11.07.685. Should be the same than Inroads 08.11.07.685 but obviously it seems to be bug in Inroads.

BRT 08.11.07.685 on MS SS2 is a valid config

And finally I confirm to caddcop that the spelling of bizarre is definitively the good one
