target aliasing in Corridor Modeler

I have a surveyed DTM and a LiDAR DTM listed in target aliasing, in order to make due until we can obtain more survey.  In the attached picture, I am attempting to utilize a ditch grade on the right (purple circle) and my entire right end condition won't display.  When reviewing the Roadway Designer Results after processing, it says at this station that foreslope, ditch and backslope were all successful.  I have my surveyed surface listed first in aliasing as I want my end condition to find that first if it is available.  When I switch the order, of course it will solve and find the LiDAR DTM, but I don't want that for the length of my corridor, just at a handful of stations.  Is there an override similar to parametric constraints that will allow me to target a specific surface ONLY for a short while?  Or why is my target aliasing not functioning the way I would expect it to?  Help!

  • I thought about EC exceptions, but we're we have topsoil placement on our end conditions and they are normal components (child of end condition), therefore are not available in the exception list. Not a huge deal, but we wouldn't get our topsoil for a handful of stations.
Can you explain what you mean by targeting for both EC in that range? Does that mean I should create a separate template that specifically targets my surveyed surface? Or is there a way to target a singular end condition to two surfaces?

    Thanks, Chris-

I was able to successfully use target aliasing in this same scenario on a recent project. If I were troubleshooting for someone in-house, the first thing I would do is go to the template editor and make certain that the end condition is targeting <active surface> instead of a specific DTM. Then, setting the aliases as you have described should do what you want - find your survey surface where you have enough data, and find the LiDAR surface only when needed.

Based on your response above, it sounds like you may already have this set up correctly, but I thought I would at least chime in.
  • I appreciate the suggestion. Yes, I have used it successfully on other projects using that method. It isn't working properly in this instance.
