I am modelling a sewage pipe system where I cannot place a node / lateral connection on an existing conduit. The placement of my pipe system is obtained using the "Extract utilities from graphics"-command whereas the end and start point of the graphic

RE: Adding a node (structure) to an existing pipe network (conduits).

Thanks for the quick response Robert!

The Place Node command now works perfectly. I didn't notice the placement type first, which was basically the problem.

However, now when I try to use the second command "place a lateral" it does not work out for me. I use an existing stormwater pipe, adding a new pipe and node with the same type as the existing pipe. The only product of the command is a point on the correct level, but no pipe or node is placed.

Regards,
Daniel Berglund

RE: Adding a node (structure) to an existing pipe network (conduits).

Use place node command with placement type set to By Conduit Invert. With split will split the original conduit into two pieces at the new node. Without split leaves the original conduit intact. Note that the feature definition use here must be of the same type as the conduit. For example, you would need to use a waster water node type to match to your waste water conduit type.

The place lateral command works differently but may be appropriate depending on your needs. Place Lateral will never break the trunk line. Also, its intended use is for nodes which are offset from the original conduit and connect to the trunk with a tee connection. It will produce a result when the offset is zero but the result may not be what you expect. Using the Lateral command requires that the new node feature definition, the lateral conduit and the original conduit all be of the same type.

I have tested both of these commands in a scenario like you describe and they are both working. However, there could be something unique in your data. If you are still unable to get what you need then post the dataset for review.
