Subforums

Any chance this forum will be changed to have sub-forums for the different civil/land dev products (InRoads, PowerCivil, Geopak, etc.)
  • Larry Whitt:
choose to filter the posts (or not) via the tag which should be made available in a drop down list in the forum.

This would help us inroad users that currently do not have MX or Geopak before we get all platforms merging into one.   I like the tag and filter idea to sort and filter to an inroads topic.

  • That was looked into. After consideration, it was determined that there were simply too many possible "What if?", "Oops!", "This applies to more than just...", ad infinitum things involved. This is NOT to say that things will be as they are now going forward, mind you -- only that this site is intended to change based on what happens, not on what might/should/may happen.

  • There is a way to have it both ways.  When the user creates a new post, the poster would be required to select from a list the software to which the post is specific.  If the post is more general in nature, General could be one of the availble options in the list.  But to enable submission of the post, a selection would have to be made - no default, unless the poster can specify a default in his or her profile or something.  Upon submission a tag would automatically be applied to the post in accordance with the poster's selection.  Readers could then choose to filter the posts (or not) via the tag which should be made available in a drop down list in the forum.

It is MUCH better to start at a high level and work into finer levels of granularity than it is to start at a low level and work your way up.

True, much easier to start at a high level (forums), then work into finer levels (forums>products>road design and land dev products>AND THEN THE INDIVIDUAL PRODUCTS) then it would be to have everything lumped together.

It is also MUCH better to service to your customers needs today, rather than servicing their expected needs for vaporware products.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • <Why does the rationale for subforums under Microstation not apply to Road Design? Simply because there are more posts?>

You answered your own question :) Seriously, that is the only Forum that has sub-forums, due to activity (we have monitored that over the years).

Next time we are all in the same place (hmmm... Be Conference?) I'll buy a round.

The discussion.bentley.com system will go to "archive" mode (i.e. read-only) soon... some time between now and the end of the year (most likely sooner than later, though).

[EDIT] Currently planning to set all the discussion groups on discussion.bentley.com to read-only on December 15, 2008.
