Just installed Site and Survey V8i. Two questions:
1. A box opened the first time I opened a file after installing. It says "Discovering types of items" and appears to be looking for something. After at least 20 minutes, it's still going. The file I opened was used for a modeler project and has site elements and objects. The box popped up before I activated GeoPak. Is Site V8i trying to ID these? Will it ever stop?
2. When I try to open a project started in XM, I am asked if I want to convert the file to V8i and that it won't be compatible with XM anymore. What in V8i won't be backwards compatible with XM?

Hi John,
I can respond to your first question but someone with more knowledge of GEOPAK will need to answer your second question. The fact that the "Discovering Types of Items" dialog remains active throughout the entire first session of MicroStation after a new install of a civil product is a known issue. If you exit and restart MicroStation, then the dialog should go away after a few seconds every time that you start MicroStation thereafter. This should be fixed in the next release of MicroStation V8i. I apologize for the inconvenience but it should only occur the first time.

Jason is correct about the first issue. It's a known issue but is only an inconvenience. It will not cause you any problems.
As for your second question, I assume you are opening a Site Modeler project? If so, the .gsf has changed formats in V8i. So if you open a .gsf file it will be converted to the new format and will not be backward compatible to 8.8 or XM.
