Feature definitions from .xin not carrying symbology through to dgn

Hi.

I am working on PowerCivil SS4, with limited to fair previous SS2 InRoads experience. I am hitting a wall when it comes to symbologies and plan production. I have spent some time working through the various Wiki's and videos available and have carried out the following workflow:

  • Created a library for local feature definitions, eg "Test.dgnlib"
  • Opened this dgnlib and linked an InRoads company .xin file by loading the .xin file in the Inroads window, going to Civil Standards > rt click Feature Definitions > Link Active Feature Styles.
  • Opened another PowerCivil dgn and configured the workspace to include the "Test.dgnlib" by going to Workspace > Configuration > CIVIL_CONTENTMANAGEMENTDGNLIBLIST > Edit > Append > added link to the test dgnlib in the workspace using a wildcard *.dgnlib

The results have been that I can now see the "Test.dgnlib" from any PowerCivil dgn that I open and access the feature definitions, however, none of the symbology comes through, it only appears as a white line, unless I reload the original .xin file into the InRoads window of the .dgn that I am working in. I understand that linking to a .xin file from a normal dgn only creates the link so that you can see the features in the xin file, and doesn't store the symbologies in the dgn. However, I thought that linking to a .xin file from your dgnlib was the answer to that "storage" problem, otherwise what is the point of creating a dgnlib?

Am I misunderstanding the concept of the dgnlib or is there something missing from my workflow?

Thanks

Matthew

  • Hi Jason

Thanks a lot, that did sort out the issue of the symbologies not being translated through from the dgnlib file.

The symbologies work nicely when I pick an element in plan and change the feature definition. However, I get mixed results when I synchronise a template drop with the template library. I have gone into the template editor and changed the symbology of the points in the template (Edge of Pavement (EOP) and Fill Top/Shoulder Break Point (SBP)) and saved changes. Then when I go back to the model and synchronise with the template library, only the SBP feature is shown with the symbology that I have set. The EOP line doesn't appear at all.

I thought it was a levels issue, but I've tested by putting all levels on, to find that the EOP feature can't be found.

In the model, the 3D-model is on and the design stage of the corridor is set to "7 - Final Linear Features".

    What am I missing?

    Regards,

    Matthew
