Inroads does not honor assigned line styles for drainage structures

This question is with reference to the article on the same topic at http://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/22540.view-drainage-does-not-honor-assigned-styles

As mentioned in the article, my structures .dat file has pre-assigned line styles for all drainage structures. However, even after turning style lock on and viewing drainage, all the structures are placed in the "Default" level with a default line style.

What am I missing here? Thanks in advance,

Vinod Balakrishnan

  • Can you provide the exact version of InRoads you are using and perhaps a dataset (DGN, XIN, SDB)?

With the style lock on it should use the style assigned to each structure. And this is based on the style that was assigned to the structure when it was created. Each structure has the styles assigned when it is created and is stored in the SDB, so it doesn't pull from the current/active setting in the structures.dat file. You can do an edit/review for each structure and check the 'Styles' tab to see what is assigned and what should be used. We should also look at the level manager to see if there are any level overrides, etc. in the file which could cause the line style to revert to something different.

  • Turn on Style Lock.
When off, the styles can be defined in the View Drainage dialog box and saved in a Preference. When on, the Styles saved in the SDB are used. Also, you can assign styles in the i_structures.dat file so that as design elements are selected, the styles are automatically placed in the SDB file. It is even possible to define "existing" and Proposed elements in the i_structures.dat file so that when displayed in plan, profile or cross sections, the symbology between the two "states" are different.

  • Chris - These Inroads sdb files were converted from Geopak format using the ASCII import option. The conversion was done during the earliest stages of the project when we hadn't set up the required line styles in the .dat file. So the drainage structures in the sdb file were assigned default linestyles.

The line styles were assigned to the .dat file after the conversion from Geopak to Inroads was made. I can see that as being the reason why, with style lock on, my drainage structures are not being displayed according to the style set in the .dat file.

I am afraid I might have to individually edit these drainage structures in the sdb file and change their line styles in the Styles tab.

  • Hey Chuck - Please see my response to Chris above. Thanks!
  • The sdb file is just an access database, si it can be edited programmatically. Unfortunately, Microsoft has moved on beyond the MDB file format of the SDB, so the natural tool of Access is only an option where an old enough version can be located.
However, it can also be edited using VB and VBA and there is a freeware mdb viewer and editor on cnet.com.
