GEOPAK-PROFILE SHEET COMPOSITION TOOL

First make sure that you don't have any geopak.exe processes hanging in task manager.
clean up your rsc files

are you using motif? or are you laying the sheet borders in your current design file?
using motif
make sure that you reference the plan and profile to the motif
using current
make sure plan profile are attached
delete any sheet borders already in dgn and do a file compress (this is important to compress to make sure that the borders are no longer found)
layout your new sheets

I found the problem to the program crashing. The dot I am working for had reference files that were not available, the system could not find them, so crashed. However, the part of my question concerning scales. How is the scale on the far right of the Profile Composition Tool meant to be used ? I noticed my profile sheet vertical scale was not what the profile cell has specified and not what that small scale setting has set either. It appears to be some combination of the two scales to get a resulting composite scale ?

it depends on how you set up your .psl
if you do all your dimensions for a scale of 1. then you can key in a scale value in the dialog to blow everything up (this is preferred)
plot your profile with the same scale you want to use.

The DOT has the drawing scale under General Tab, in the *.psl file, set to 1.0. So, if I understand you correctly, then the plotted page will be the scale of that setting. If it reads 20 ft/in then I will have a horizontal scale of 1"=20'. But if the profile cell has a horizontal scale of 1"=10', the printed page will still read 1"=20' from the 20 ft/in setting in composition tool. However, the vertical scale on the profile cell is 1"=2', but on the printed page the vertical scale appears to be 1"=8'. Based on the scales described above, can you help me understand how to interpret the vertical scale and why it is such an odd value and not multiples of 10 or 20 ?

yes correct. the scale applies to the sheets and other settings within the sheets. it will not rescale your profile or your plan. plot the profile at the scale you want to show in the sheets.
