how to use special ditch grades in open roads

Making the transition from using criteria to develop cross-section to using openroads SS4. During the design phase I would allow the criteria to define the ditch sections. Those sections would be given to the drainage engineer who would develop special ditch grades to control the flowlines. I would then allow the special ditch grades to control the flowlines. I am having a difficult time finding the best way to do this in openroads. I found a video where the ditch was controlled by an alignment and profile but I want the frontslope to control the horizontal location and the profile to control the vertical. Is there an efficient way to do this in open roads? Thanks for your input. Brian

  • From what I've seen, one end condition has a priority of 100 will be processed properly if any points it depends on are established by an end condition whose priority is 99 or less. I may not have the full picture here, but I tinkered with end condition priorities, and that's pretty much what my observations tell me.

So with that in mind, I guess the question is whether it is more efficient to target the profile of an attachment or to do it as a point control.

Between 2 and 5 minutes into this video communities.bentley.com/.../30090.video-corridor-processing-optimization-tips-and-techniques, the presenter says that a combination of horizontal point control and project to surface is quicker than targeting a point control that sets both offset and elevation.

That's not quite our scenario, but in the end, the difference in processing time probably isn't noticeable in most cases.
