I set null pt as you suggested and when a special ditch grade was found the ditch was created the null point moves. the logic is setup so if the anchor pt and null pt are not equal the fb ditch is created. the other thing I am trying to do is have a fill if there is no special ditch grade. since I set the priority at a higher number for the fill I assumed that fill would show up when no special ditch grade found. it did not. I then set up a rule for the fill component that if the null point I created did not move vertical then it should draw a fill. it still didn't draw a fill. I must be missing something. thanks for your help. brian

RE: continuing with special ditch grade...

Create a Null Point off to one side at elevation 0 in the template. Create a display rule that checks to see if the vertical distance between the Null point and your Template Origin point is not equal to zero. When it is equal to zero, you do not want the elements displayed, when it is not, you want them displayed.
You might need some other end condition to display when the other in not.

RE: continuing with special ditch grade...

Ooooh! I'd like to know this as well.
Is it possible to set up an end condition based on a control such that, if the control doesn't exist the end condition fails?
