Current Program: ODOT cadd Power GEOPAK V8i SS4 with OpenRoads
Project Description: Using OpenRoads version of microstation to connect intersections that were previously base-mapped with V8istd version of microstation with the new surveyed main road.
After cleaning up points and line-work i created a new terrain model from field book data, and created 7 other terrain models (from file) using individual .TIN files that were created using "ODOT V8Istd Power GEOPAK SS4". Created a complex terrain model using the "field book" terrain as my primary surface, and the other 7 terrains as to be merged. I then Deactivated the Surveying Process Rules under the survey tab of the project explorer in order to edit the Complex Terrain.
When i went to add features (top of bank/toe of slope) that were removed during the merge process, many other features were excluded from the terrain after the new features were added. ie: added the top of bank feature to the terrain and it deleted triangles from several curb, edge of pavement, and sidewalk lines.
Why did this happen? and what is the correct procedure for activating and deactivating Terrain Rules in order for the terrain to keep edits made to it?
Occasionally i was still unable to edit the terrain model even though i deactivated the processing rules in the survey tab. i then would have to switch to the civil model tab in the project explorer and lock or unlock the rules for the terrain models.
Really appreciate any help, i cant move forward with the project until i get this resolved.
thanks,
Adam Ryan

When you create the complex terrain and you merge the information, it is ruling the complex terrain to the individual terrains that built the complex terrain. So if you edit features within either of the terrains, it will update the contours of the complex terrain. With that said, when you merge the terrains the complex terrain I don't think it will include features from the primary terrain which are within the extents/boundary of the secondary/merged Terrain. At this point, how are you adding the break lines? Are you trying to add them through new survey or by adding the graphic of the original break lines into the complex terrain as a new break line?

Any time you activate the rules to sync the field book and terrain, this is going to get rid of any edits made to just the terrain. So if you are trying to add new survey and bring in new features from survey, when you Activate the Survey Processing Rules it will go back to how the field book is controlling the terrain.

To add the break lines back into the terrain, i tried using the "add features" circled in red in the following screen shot.
this is what the terrain looks like immediately after creating the merged complex terrain. (notice the top of bank and toe of slope break lines are excluded)
this is what the terrain looks like after trying to add those (2) excluded break lines (notice the curb, eop, and walk break lines are now excluded from the terrain while the top of bank and toe of slope lines were added)
more and more break lines keep getting excluded as i try to re-add the lines. this wouldn't be to bad of an issue if i wasn't dealing with 2 more miles of roadway topo and intersections.
as for the terrain rules, if i want the terrain to maintain the edits that i have made to it, i will have to keep the rules "de-activated"?
and if down the road more topo/survey is added to the basemap, i will have to re-activate the rules to include the new survey into the terrain and i will have to re-do all edits i had done previosuly?
