Inroads SS4 - Longitudinal section including references

Hello,

In Inroads SS4 it is possible to make cross section that include geometry from files that are referenced in. Is it possible to also do this in the longitudinal direction? It does not seem to work on my computer. Seems kind of silly if it is only able to do it in the cross direction.

Longitudinal sections along the curve where f.ex. a bridge or some other structure is included is something the engineers are asking for very often.

  • Are you talking about Dynamic Sections or Graphical Sections (for plotting)? And likewise, profile views or graphic profiles for plotting?

Either way, for profiles, you can only show terrain surfaces or derived profile lines from other 3D lines and profiles. Meshes from Corridors and Linear Templates cannot be displayed in either type of profile display at this time.

  • I was talking about profile views for plotting. Not dynamic sections.

The problem is basically to take profile sections along curved lines including intersecting bridges and structures.

It's to bad that it is not possible. When it became possible to include external references in the cross section views it was really handy. I hope to see it in a future version.

  • yes you will in Openroads designer, I think it is planned for the update 1, but I am not 100% sure. It will not be dynamic as it is for cross section, but you will be able to "reference" a profile of the 3D model. It is more complex for profile than for cross sections. Cross Section are made of straight whereas horizontal alignment is made of more complex geometries like spirals. It looks to be more difficult to handle for developers. But they are working on it...
