Key Stations Cross Sections no bueno

I am attempting to cut cross sections at a 50' interval but also have specific cross sections cut at driveways, so I set Key Stations at every drive and one intersection. But when I run the create cross sections command, it cuts all my cross sections at a 50' interval and ignores my Key Stations or I can get it to only cut my Key Stations in the Custom folder. Is there really no way to have Open Roads read my Key Stations automatically?

  • What I found out was if I have cross sections cut at Sta 1+00, 1+50, 2+00...etc it will cut those fine. But if I have a driveway or intersection at 1+73. It will not add that cross sections automatically. It will not add 1+00, 1+50, 1+73, 2+00...etc

When I run the create cross section command with cross sections at 50' intervals it adds those fine and creates one model for those, but then when I create cross sections with key stations it put those cross sections into a separate model. I would like to be able to have all of my cross sections at 50' intervals as well as the cross sections at key stations run automatically and put in order into one model.

    Thank you

  • Hi Chris,

You can have them all in one model if you use the Custom cross section dialog box.

Notice that I have a Station Range to run cross sections every 100' across my entire alignment. Then, I added cross sections at specific stations. I can save that so that I don't have to recreate it every time I run the tool. This is how you add key stations. Currently, the software does not automatically cut cross sections at key stations that you created. You add them through the custom cross section dialog. When it is run as shown above, they all show up in one model in order of rising station numbers.

  • Holly,

Thank you for the reply. That is what I wanted to know. I can set a Station Range to drop cross sections at 100' intervals but if I want Key Stations I will need to add those in manually thru the Custom folder in the cross section dialog box.

So the Key Stations you set in the corridor objects are different from these key stations? Because I set key stations thru the corridor objects but when I got into the Custom folder in the Create cross section dialog box I did not see any of the key stations I set thru the corridor.

    Thank you

  • Yes, they are different. You will have to manually add in stations that you want as cross sections that are not apart of the 50' interval. So if you have key stations in your corridor, you will have to manually type in those stations within the custom dialog box. You should only have to do it once if you save it off.

  • Holly,

Once I run cross sections thru the Create Cross section dialog box and they are placed in a model are those cross sections then independent of the corridor, alignment, and profile? I would have thought that once I run them that I could then go modify my corridor or profile and have them update in the model automatically. But so far each time I have made changes to my corridor or alignment I have had to re-run the cross sections again to get the modifications to show up. Is this something that will change in a future update or am I missing a step?

    Thank you
