A few basic questions for a beginner.

Hello!

I am a drafter for a Civil engineering Firm and i have been tasked with learning Openroads and SUDA (Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis) . The only problem is i know almost nothing about Openroads, or inroads, or anything other than basic drafting in microstation. First question, what is the difference between Openroads and Power inroads? The people in my office use the two names synonymously. Second question, i am trying to learn power inroads on the bentley learn serve but i cant find anything on drainage design and analysis. I need to find out what SUDA is, and how to explain what it is.

  • Power InRoads is a bundling of MicroStation and InRoads into a single install and executable. Prior to the version branded as SELECTseries 3, Power Inroads was a single package with survey, site, road, storm and sanitary and a bridge layout module. There were also a few additional capabilities that duplicated some of those functionalities as a sort of technology demonstration of something called Open Roads.

SELECTseries 4 version superseded  SELECTseries 3 which introduced Open Roads as a full product, although certain InRoads tools must still be used at this time. Open Roads was conceived as Bentley's next generation civil product. It was created as the platform that all three of Bentley's civil product users would eventually migrate to. Over time Bentley had acquired InRoads, GEOPAK and MX - all Civil Products that ran on top of MicroStation.

And Suda is intended to replace any and all storm & sewer design products. Possible acronym is Subsurface Utility Design Application.
