Annotate Utilities in cross sections for PowerGEOPAK

I am having trouble developing the correct element templates that will be used for utilities.

I need the utilities to be detected as a feature when using Corridor Modeling Annotate Cross Sections. However the feature definition for conduits does not have a "Cross Section" definition associated as did the 3D linear features.

Any tips or advice on creating these will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

  • I don't believe annotation on conduits is available through the Cross Section commands.  When your subsurface structures are displayed, it is coming from the 3D model of the displayed graphics.  So it is treated like other 3D objects such as solids and elements which are CAD graphics.  This type functionality may come in the future with ORD CONNECT.

The only other thought I have on this is to create Linear Features in a terrain model so they can be displayed and annotated but I have not gone through this process before to get a workflow.  Just something to think about and test for a workflow.

  • The use of Linear features on top of the conduits is the work around that FDOT does. It creates double the work, as for every conduit you need a linear feature, and becomes a second data block to manage. I believe it is not worthwhile to annotate, which is the recommendation I will be presenting to the client as cross sections are an information coordination display only that is not used for construction. All the data can be attained in the relevant schedules and utility plans, and if the workspace is setup well, each utility size can appear on different levels, so a legend with symbology can be created to show what each level is.

There are a lot of thinks I hope connect series actually does that should be been done at the SS4 level. We will wait and see....
