I need to use the AutoCAD Civil 2014 Object Enabler for some C3D files I received, but when I install it, it says it can't find any compatible software (or something like that). From what I understand it is because I need to install RealDWG 2014. Where can I download this from? I can only find RealDWG 2016 on the fulfillment center.Or can I effectively get 2014 simply by setting the configuration variable MS_REALDWG_VERSION to 2014?

Make sure you are installing the 32 bit version of the enabler. Autodesk is now using 64 bit for it main applications but unless you are using the Connect Versions, Bentley programs are still 32 bit.
Also, Bentley does not always use every version of RealDWG.
From Civil 3D 2013 through 2016, the DWG and Civil 3D objects were compatible. Civil 3D 2017 and 2018 are not backwards compatible with any prior version, including each other. While those two versions share the same DWG file format, the Civil 3D objects do not share their internal format. An object enable can upgrade a Civil 3D file as though it were opened in a newer version of Civil 3D.

I installed the 32-bit OE of Civil 2016 and it installed fine. I haven't' received the dwg files I will be working with yet, but have been told they are Civil 3D 2014.
Can you please set me straight which OE and RealDWG I need to work with Civil3D 2014 files?
I'm using MS SS4.

As I understand it, You should be OK with that version. We learned about Object incompatibilities the hard way back with Real DWG 2009. I opened some Civil 3D 2008 files and suddenly they were no longer readable in Civil 3D. I used this as an excuse to update to Civil 3D 2009.
Since then, we were very wary of DWG versions and Civil 3D.
We literally rejoiced when Autodesk made Civil 3D and DWG files compatible between 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
We were equally disappointed to learn that with 2017 and later 2018, that this compatibility was not continued.
