Traditionally we have received survey feature data in MX GENIO format. Is there a workflow to bring this directly into Openroads Designer? I appreciate that at present I can bring it into MX and then re-export it in a CAD format or LandXML - but is there any prospect of more direct functionality being incorprated purely within Openroads Designer (say, mapping string names to feature definitions)?

I don't think so ORD has function to import GENIO format directly, I use model.fil from MXRoad project to import the terrain to ORD. it works without any problem.
