I need to export some models designed in Openroads to 3D Solids so I can imprt them to Navisworks. I have been told that if I save an Openroads model as a DWG, it will export the drainage to 3D Solids, then I can NWCOUT from there. When I "Save

RE: Openroads to Navisworks

Hi Adam,

In order to avoid some errors during export, we create a new 3d only DGN, reference in the Default-3d model only (with unwanted levels turned off) and merge to master. This works well and has all civil data stripped so they are all Unlocked Microstation meshes.

Except for the open meshes created by clipped corridors, etc. Standard clash detection in Navisworks works fine. Personally I prefer the one in SUE but we don't have a choice most of the time.

RE: Openroads to Navisworks

Thanks. It happens my meshes dont; look good in navis. What is your workflow when you have to deliver road models to coordinator working with Navisworks? My preferable soultion would be to provide imodel created out of Dfault-3d model.

Will appraciate you hints and tips.

So basically you export Default-3D model to dwg? and than meshes can be used for clsh deteciton in Navis?

RE: Openroads to Navisworks

Adam

Sorry, but I can't replicate your problem

This is what I get when I open a dgn in Navisworks

Openroads DGN vs DWG in Navisworks:

Can Navisworks consume OpenRoads pavement meshes and use it for for clash detection? Navis will open dgn, that is true but it is a big pain with meshes. Some workarounds say to convert meshes to solids with a keyin and use macro to clean it up. I would rather avoid creating additional models and would like to use native default-3d models created with ORD.

Unfortunately it looks navis is becoming industry standard. This affecting OpenRoads users since they produce meshes... What is your best practice when you need to deal with ORD and Navis?

Thanks for your thoughts.
