I have 3 stacked terrain models (1. Existing Ground, 2. Topsoil Stripped and 3. Mountain) and a corridor cutting through all three terrains. When calculating End-Area Volumes, is it possible to automatically calculate/devide the Cut volume into these three soil-types, based on the terrain-models?
Yes. If you assigned a feature definition to substrata Terrain Model such as Existing_Rock_Surface then it is automatically set as "volume option=substrata". Then in End Area volume it is computed as such and if you use Earthworks_Quantities.xsl you will find required quantities.
You can also check and change the type of surface in the End Area Volume panel under "Classification"

This will work in SS4 but not with ORD as for ORD there is no tool to calculate earthworks by End Area Volume method.

Ah, my mistake. I'm completely new to this program and was sure I had ORD... But I think you're right, that it is instead the Power Inroads I have (or PowerCivil..?).. It's all very confusing with all the names and versions.
Big trouble for ORD indeed though... It seems like an essential function, when designing roads..
Fortunately there will be just ORD in some time, all road design software is merging and there will be no confusion... I only hope that ORD would be capable of doing all cool stuff that all merging software can do with en ease. EAV is just to name one.
If you create a terrain model from your corridor you can create a volume report comparing the design terrain with the different existing terrains. If you use end area volumes , you should do this as a check anyway. This is how I have always calc'd volumes in SS2 and SS4.
in ORD Connect Edition you can not calculate volumes by EAV, since then you can not really create cut/fill table, can not replace unsuitable material with fill material, etc. I was told that EAV will be incorporated to ORD with update 3, hopefully Q!/Q2 next year.
Yeah , that is really unfortunate about ORD and end area reports. I didn't clarify very well in my previous post that you should try using the terrain tools to create a volume report. This can be separated into different areas by using a fence or a shape. These reports are very useful for back checking end area volumes and doing overall quantity volumes quickly. I have used this method exclusively on many large scale site projects with multiple layers of the existing and design materials.
